Indigenous & Northern Photos Project

The Everett Baker and Adrian Paton photo collections contain almost 400 images that relate to Indigenous peoples’ culture, ceremony, and communities in Saskatchewan. The photos date from the late 1880s through to the early 1970s and include studio portraits, photographs of pow wows, rodeos, parades, and snapshots of everyday life. There are also numerous Everett Baker photos that relate to Northern Saskatchewan in the 40s, 50s and 60s.

This work aims to visually repatriate photos from these two collections to their source communities. The goal is to raise awareness and ensure easy access to the photos in support of reclaiming community and family history.

This project is part of the SHFS' response to the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
